Real Madrid dropped yet more points at the top of La Liga after being held to a 1-1 draw at Villarreal as they were also reduced to nine-men. Madrid took the lead at El Madrigal on the hour when Cristiano Ronaldo fired home on the hour. But for the second match in succession Jose Mourinho's men were held as Marcos Senna grabbed the leveller with just seven-minutes left as he curled home a free-kick. Athletic Bilbao suffered a third straight league defeat as they went down 2-1 to Atletico Madrid - who moved above them into seventh.
Pablo Hernandez gave the home side the lead just five minutes in, but the UEFA Champions League chasers could not hold on with Apono the hero for the visitors. He levelled from the spot on the half-hour before grabbing the winner 12-minutes from time. To compound matters for Madrid, Sergio Ramos and Mesut Ozil both saw red in the final five-minutes. Bottom-of-the-table Real Zaragoza produced a huge shock as they secured a 2-1 win at third placed Valencia.
Carlos Vela put Sociedad ahead just three-minutes in, but Levante were soon level from the penalty spot with Jose Javier Bakero slotting home. Arouna Kone then put Levante ahead on the stroke of half time and Xavi Torres wrapped up the game in injury time. Manolo Jimenez's men are now five points off safety, whilst Valencia are now just three points clear ofLevante - who won 3-1 at Real Sociedad.
Two second-half goals from Colombian ace Radamel Falcao were enough for Diego Simeone's men. Bilbao could only grab a last-minute consolation through Javi Martinez. Second from bottom Sporting Gijon succumbed 3-2 at home to Real Mallorca. Sporting came from behind twice with Adrian Colunga and Botia both levelling after goals from Jose Nunes and Nsue for Mallorca. But Alvaro Gimenez's goal 13-minutes from was enough for the Islanders.
