Franck Ribery: "We have a good advantage over the return match"

Midfielder Bavaria Franck Ribery shared his impressions from the first meeting of the quarter finals of the Champions League against the Marseille (2:0). 

"It was important to win today. We played very well, but the work is not yet fully done. While it is clear that before the home game we are in a good position. UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw

The Stamford Bridge club are the last remaining English team in the competition after progressing to the last eight following Wednesday's epic win over Napoli. Roberto Di Matteo's Chelsea were drawn against Benfica in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, with the first leg to be played in Portugal. The draw for the semi-finals was not so kind on Chelsea and should they eliminate Benfica, they will face either AC Milan or Pep Guardiola's defending champions, Barcelona.

And Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who earlier in March sacked Andre Villas-Boas seemingly over a fear of failure in the Champions League, is unlikely to have any complaints about his club's next opponents. Benfica knocked out Zenit St Petersburg in the last 16, but were a preferable draw to the two Spanish heavyweights of Barcelona and Real Madrid, with the tie pitting Ramires and David Luiz against their former club. Arsenal's conquerors, Milan, and Barcelona were again drawn together after twice meeting in this season's group stages. 

Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid's reward for the two-legged win over CSKA Moscow was a tie against major underdogs APOEL and the first leg will be played in Cyprus. Bayern Munich, whose Allianz Arena will stage this season's final on 19th May, will face Didier Deschamps' Marseille, with the opening encounter in France. Owing to the fact Real, who would take on Bayern or Marseille in the semis, and Barcelona were kept on opposite sides of the draw, the two Spanish rivals could meet in what would be a dream final. 

Quarter-final ties will be played on March 27th/28th and April 3rd/4th, while the semi-finals will take place on April 17th/18th and 24th/25th.

Claudio Ranieri: “This match is a picture of our season”

Inter Milan coach Claudio Ranieri claims luck has deserted his side this season, with Tuesday's European exit adding to their woes. Ranieri feels the outcome could have been different had fortune favoured his team, with it his opinion that they were the better side over the course of the two games. The Serie A giants crashed out of the UEFA Champions League in midweek despite picking up a 2-1 victory over last-16 rivals Marseille.

He is, however, facing up to the fact that Inter have seen their continental dreams crushed and must now focus their attention on finding form in Serie A, allowing them to close the six-point gap which separates them from the top four. A 1-0 defeat in the first leg of that encounter ended up costing Inter dear, with Brandao's late strike seeing them eliminated on away goals. 

"This match is a picture of our season, we played better than Marseille and even tonight we had the clearer chances," said Ranieri. "Over 180 minutes Marseille had three shots on goal but in football the team who wins is the one that scores, so well done to them. "We were unjustly condemned, but that's the beauty and the beast of football and you have to accept it." "This year we haven't had any luck, I can't ask the team for more.
